Longevity...
The Omega Juicer has been around for over 40 years and like the ever popular Champion juicer the Omega 1000 is a testament to a great initial design. My mother had this model and it was suitable for her needs. (since then she's upgraded to the Green Star!)
Need to know info...
The Omega Juicer is a centrifugal juicer that operates at about 12,000 RPM and is capable of juicing vegetables and fruit. It is not good at juicing wheatgrass or juicing leafy greens well.
Because it is a centrifugal juicer the pulp is thrown out by centrifugal force into a drum that is just like a washing machine drum - it is perforated stainless that traps the pulp on the inside and allows the juice to strain out. Just like on a washing machine spin cycle, it is possible to get the contents out of balance so that the whole machine shakes (which is a downside of centrifugal)! However, if you are careful, this should not happen.
The centrifuge is made of surgical stainless steel (polished and brushed effect) and fits easily onto the kitchen worktop. It is a good looking juicer, with a good design. It weights about 11 pounds, which is must less then many single gear juicers that range around 20 pounds.
Assembly, options and cleaning....
Assembly of the juicer parts if fairly easy and only takes a minute. The latch arms securely lock the assembled parts together so the juicer is ready to operate and they require very little effort to fix in place.
Although the Omega Juicer is capable of peeled citrus fruits there is also an optional citrus press attachment available to buy separately which uses transforms the juicer into a citrus press which can quickly juice unpeeled, halved oranges, grapefruit, limes and lemons which can be super useful if this is a point of interest to you.
The removable stainless steel parts (including pulp basket and shredder blade) of the juicer are dishwasher safe making for easy cleaning. With time the white plastic parts may become discolored from strong colored juicers. The juicer doesn’t come in any other color but white.
The pulp does get clogged when time to clean, and removing pulp fragments from the pulp basket mesh is the most difficult part. A toothbrush is ideal for this but the process can be made even easier by using optional cellulose fibre filters that fit in the pulp basket and let the juice through but trap the pulp before it comes into contact with the basket mesh. These optional filters also have the effect of filtering more of the pulp out of the juice so the juice is extremely pulp free.
Why is it good?
This juicer has been around a long time. It has been time tested with good results. It has a great design for juicing functionality and overall apparance.
The juicer is durable and a good choice for a centrifugal juicer. It's also not bad looking!
It comes with a 10 year warranty, again, a true test that the manufacturer is willing to stand by their product. For most, the life of this juicer far outlives this warranty.
